[John Geleynse]

Every year at WWDC, we're able to honor developers with the Apple Design Award. This year, even though we can't do that in person, we still wanted to do it in a very personal way. [FACETIME TONE] Majd Taby: Hello, hello!

[Lauren Grimm]

Hey, Majd, how's it going? Oh, Simon! Simon Flesser: Hi!

[Jenova Chen]

Thank you very much for having me here.

[Lauren Grimm]

My name's Lauren Grimm, I'm a design evangelist here at Apple, and I'm super excited to talk to you today about your app. What would you say is unique about Where Cards Fall?

[Sam Rosenthal]

It is telling a story that is very grounded and very personal.

[Jenova Chen]

Sky is a game that tries to evoke the bright side of humanity.

[Philipp Stollenmayer]

It's an abstract game developing into something more understandable with time.

[Simon Flesser]

We wanted to have a cast that felt inclusive, so that it would feel approachable to more people. A little less here and a little more here.

[Eran Hilleli]

Looom is a playful take on an instrument for creating drawn animation.

[David William Hearn]

The goal was really simple, just to make writing music notation extremely easy.

[Majd Taby]

We wanted photographers, when they use Darkroom, to forget that they're in an app doing photo editing and to just think of the stories that they're trying to tell.

[István Csanády]

Shapr3D is aiming to create an iconic design tool that will define the future of 3D design for the next 20 or 30 years.

[Lauren Grimm]

I'm actually getting some texts on my phone. There is somebody else that wants to join the call. Do you mind if I merge somebody else in?

[István Csanády]

Yeah, sure! Absolutely. Lauren: Yeah. [FACETIME TONE] John: Hey, Sam!

[Sam Rosenthal]

Oh, my gosh. Wow.

[John Geleynse]

My name is John Geleynse.

[István Csanády]

We met a couple of times.

[Sam Rosenthal]

Great to see you again.

[John Geleynse]

I heard that you were talking to Lauren today, and I thought it would be great if I could jump in on the call.

[Majd Taby]

Oh, sure. Nice to have you on the call.

[John Geleynse]

I am honored and thrilled to let you know that you have been selected this year for an Apple Design Award.

[István Csanády]

What? [LAUGHS]

[John Geleynse]

You're a winner of the Design Awards this year.

[Eran Hilleli]

Holy shit!

[Sam Rosenthal]

This is so cool. [LAUGHS]

[Majd Taby]

[LAUGHS] Thank you. Lauren: Aww.

[John Geleynse]

Now you're one of those who other developers can stand on the shoulders of and build the next generation of apps.

[Simon Flesser]

Why, thank you! [LAUGHS]

[Lauren Grimm]

How do you feel right now?

[David William Hearn]

That's inspired me even more, to do more.

[Eran Hilleli]

When you make these things with a lot of love, that connection between you and that thing will spark again when people experience it.

[Jenova Chen]

If you pour your heart and soul into something, it will be exceptional.

[Majd Taby]

Ultimately, we're all still learning and we're all in pursuit of an ideal that can never be achieved.

[Sam Rosenthal]

We're all working so hard just to make beautiful things exist. You know it needs to be out there, but you've got to convince a lot of other people that it's going to be valuable. Especially when it's in its early stages and is not beautiful yet. But it will be.
